Nagaland: Natural calamities affect over 150 families in Kohima

A major landslide affected two private houses and other three belonging to Border Road Task Force (BRTF) located at Peraciezie, High School Junction Kohima on August 1. A circular road within BRTF camp has also been affected by landslide.  

Meanwhile, landslide along the stretch of NH-29 along Para Medical junction, Kohima is posing danger for total cut off of the road. It was apprehension that it would result total cut off any moment if rainfall continue.   Light vehicles are now pliable along the affected road of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema.  

Meanwhile, Kohima deputy commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan said that incessant rains continue to havoc Kohima district.   Soundararajan, who is also chairman of Kohima District Disaster Management Authority said that more than 150 families have been affected within Kohima due to landslides and other natural calamities. He said more than 100 houses have been damaged and beyond reparable.  

He informed that the state government has extended support to those affected families through Disaster Management Authority, Kohima. He also said that State Disaster Response Force team has been activated under Kohima District Disaster Management Authority. All concerned departments have been alerted to help those affected victims.  

Further, he informed that the concerned department is doing their best to clear the debris and road blockage to make the road accessible for all.
