Landslide displaces three families

Kohima, August 29 (MExN): A landslide from the upper side of Kezieke area in Kohima Town has left three families displaced in the past few days. Sources informed that if incessant rain continues, the landslide will also affect the main highway that connects Kohima Town to Secretariat.  

DCST condemns alleged assault

Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): Dimapur Changki Senso Telongjem (DCST) has condemned the alleged physical assault on UBSI Athangba, in-charge, Tsutapela check gate in Mokokchung district on August 23 at his official quarter by Platoon Commander, 2nd NAP BN and his jawans in civvies. A condemnation note from DCST president, Jakjemtiba and secretary, Limatongzuk claimed that the victim was grievously assaulted without any rhyme or reason. “UBSI Athangba is a bonafide member of Dimapur Changki Senso Telongjem and a diligent police officer who is performing his duty for the safety of the public and for the welfare of the State,” the union stated. It maintained that the action of the accused amounts to attempted murder and blatant violation of constitutional rights as guaranteed under Article 21 of the constitution of India.  

AR troops apprehend GPRN/NSCN cadre

Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): Dimapur battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended one GPRN/NSCN cadre from Kalibari road, Signal Basti on August 27. Based on specific information regarding presence of armed cadre of GPRN/NSCN carrying out extortion in Signal Basti, the AR battalion had established mobile vehicle check post at Kalibari road along with a police representative, stated a press release from PRO, IGAR (North). The accused identified as I Hojeshe Sumi (38), Deputy Secretary, GPRN/NSCN who was commuting in a car was apprehended with illegal arm and ammunitions, it alleged. According to the release, the recovery included .32mm pistol, seven live rounds of .32 mm, 3 live rounds of .22mm, one fired case of .32mm, one fired case of .22mm and 21 SP tablets. The apprehended along with the recovered items was handed over to Sub Urban Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation, it added.  

Officials trained on National Sample Survey

Kohima, August 29 (MExN): The State level training for 76th round of National Sample Survey (NSS) was conducted at the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Nagaland here on August 28 & 29. The District Economics & Statistics Officers along with host of technical staff from the districts attended the training. Y Sacheo Ovung, Director urged the trainees to be sincere and diligent while canvassing the schedules, informed a press release. Emphasizing on the need for reliable statistics of the State, he articulated that database obtained through the NSS serves as a major source of socio-economic information for formulating comprehensive planning in the State. The release mentioned that the NSS 76th round survey period is for 6 months from July 1 to December 31, and covers two important subjects, namely ‘Drinking Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, Housing conditions’ and ‘Survey of Person with Disabilities’.
