The enforcement squad of the District Tobacco Control cell, Dimapur (DTCC) on September 21 conducted a checking drive against the violators of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) which prohibits sale of tobacco products within a radius of one hundred yards of any educational institution. The drive was conducted in areas where shops are located within 100 yards of schools in Diphupar village and also CIHSR. The joint team comprised of enforcement squad from Diphupar police station, Diphupar youth organization, CIHSR security personnel and DTCC staff.  Tobacco products were seized and destroyed, and violators were also challaned on the spot. The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) flying squad team from Wokha Police Station with representatives from National Tobacco Control Programme(NTCP), DBs, personnel from Wokha Police Station and Women Police Station conducted raid/enforcement drive in an around educational institutions on September 22. As per Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, selling of any kind of tobacco products within 100 meters within the school area is restricted. The team penalized 1 defaulter and seized tobacco products from the shops falling within the restricted areas, the defaulters were warned that, should they fail to abide the COTPA, necessary legal action shall be initiated as per the provision of the Law. District Health Society, Longleng launched the National De-worming Day (September 19 to 24) at GMS Shayung Longleng Town on September 19. The team was led Dr Imcharenla Longkumer, Medical Officer, RBSK who was assisted by ANM (RBSK). The programme was simultaneously conducted at all the health units under Longleng district led by health units MO and CHO. 

 
District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Peren conducted the 2nd quarterly enforcement drive on the sale of prohibited tobacco products in areas within a radius of 100 meters of educational institutions under COTPA Act and sale of tobacco to minors at Jalukie Town on September 20. The drive was conducted under the acknowledgment of EAC Jalukie, Imtinungla Longkumer, and the police personnel from Jalukie police station. The enforcement squad seized tobacco products from five shops which were then disposed of at the police station. Some schools have kept the warnings seriously and thus discontinued the sale of tobacco within the given distance. (DIPR Photo)

 
Dimapur Leo Club along with Lions Club conducted free eye screening camp which benefited 1000 residents on September 17 and 18. The Department of Political Science, Livingstone Foundation International College, Dimapur organised a debate competition on ‘Should Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act 1989 be revoked?’ on September 21. Kevin secured the first position, while Tughunaka K Zhimo and Akumse A Sangtam secure the second and third positions respectively. The Clinical Research Unit for Homoeopathy (CRU-H), Dimapur organized a free homoeopathic medical and awareness health camp under the Seva Pakhwada 2022 campaign at MGM Higher Secondary School on September 21. The health camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr Sivakumar K Officer In-charge, CRU (H) Dimapur with the cooperation of MGM HSS. The research unit medical team provided medical services to patients and distributed homoeopathic medicines free of cost and also provided health awareness guidance to students, staff and parents of school.

 

 
Minority Morcha BJP Nagaland State Unit along with District Units is undertaking tree plantation and water body cleaning in the state under Seva Pakhwada. The Morcha planted over 100 tree saplings near Dimapur Sports Stadium under the leadership of State Morcha President, Deep Kumar on September 22. Phek district conducted orientation training on Vitamin A and Albendazole for CHOs, ANMs and LHV at District Hospital Phek on September 21 and 22. It was organised by Vitamin Angels, an international NGO working for over 25 years to address the global public-health problem of under nutrition. The resource persons, Alice Kamei Achumi, State Program Officer and Swapan Kumar, Sr SPO for North East/West Bengal oriented on the benefits, dosage, dosing interval & dosing steps etc. of Vitamin A and Albendazole for children under 5 years. The health workers were re-oriented on the importance of Vitamin A supplementation for children age 6-59 months. Vitamin A Deficiency (VAD) which affects an estimated of 190 million children ages 6-59 months were also shared.
