A mudslide caused by incessant rainfall occurred at the Lower Agri Colony road, Kohima on August 26 temporarily causing roadblock for a few hours. Torrential rains across the State have led to mudslides and landslides in various parts of Nagaland.

Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung held the College Students’ Union Election for the session 2023-2024. Some of the elected candidates included General Secretary-Asensor Jamir (BA 3rd); Assistant General Secretary-Andrew W Ngullie (BSc 3rd); Games and Sports Secretary-Tolibo (BA 5th). FAC Principal who is also the President of FACSU will nominate the candidate for the post of Vice President and Magazine Secretary which were not filled during the election.

A three-day literary week conducted by Government High School (GHS) Wokha village culminated on August 25. The programme activities included folk songs, spell bee, painting/sketching, essays, handicraft making, debate, quiz, storytelling, poem recitation, extempore speech and contemporary song singing. The competition was held house-wise (Green, Red, Yellow and Blue) in two categories (Junior and Senior). On the final day, the competition was held on Spell Bee for both the Junior and Senior categories (2 participants in each house) and Handicraft making for the boys (Basket waving) and for the girls cutting and tailoring was conducted.

The Kohima Liangmai Baptist Church D Block Women Department organised a seminar with Women Secretary, Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on August 26 at the Church premises. The NBCC Women Secretary, Visasieii Dolie was the resource person. The seminar focused on a variety of topics including resolving conflict within the families and finding inner peace. The seminar has created a guaranteed moment to provide valuable tools and idea on how to strengthen their family’s relationship. 

A one-day awareness programme on the importance of financial literacy was organised by IQAC, Mount Tiyi College, Wokha on August 25 with C Yanthan, Lead District Manager, Lead Bank Office, Wokha as the resource person. C Yanthan highlighted the importance of effective financial management and said that in Nagaland, only 8% of the population stands financial literate. Absence of labour union, market inefficiency, technology obsoletion, financial management and importance of credit score, and insurance schemes initiated by the government were the other points emphasized.

Northern Angami Youth Organization (NAYO) held its first presidential council meeting at Tsiese Basa village council hall on August 26. NAYO president, Khrievolie Zhale delivered presidential address. The programme was led by NAYO vice president Khriesazo Liezietsu while NAYO press secretary Seyievilie Sopfunuo invoked God’s blessings. Zakietuolie Khrodi, president, Tsiese Basa Village Youth Organization delivered welcome address. Vote of thanks was proposed by NAYO vice president Kevizelie Pienyii.

Jeepsing Taro, MA, III Sem, Department of History and Chanreiwungphi P Shatsang, MA, III Sem, Department of Sociology were elected as the two PG Students' Welfare Representatives, sworn in to the office of the Students' Council, St Joseph’s College (A), Jakhama on August 25 for the tenure 2023-2024.
