Nagaland: No armed conflicts related death in 2021 till Nov 15

North East States record 187 armed conflicts-related incidents

As of November 15, 2021, there was no death related with armed conflicts in three states in North East, including Nagaland, informed Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on November 30. 

Rai was replying to a query on whether the Government has the data of armed conflicts occurring in North East Region; and if so, the number of casualties among armed forces, militants and civilians since 2014. 

As per the data provided by the Minister, armed conflicts related incident has drastically reduced over the years from 824 in 2014 to as low as 163 in 2020. (See Table)

In 2021, however, there was a marginal increase to 187 in the period up to November 15.

In terms of causality of “civilians, security force (SF) personnel and insurgents killed in insurgency related incidents in North Eastern States” this year upto November 15, there were a total of 67 deaths across the regions. It included 20 civilians, 39 insurgents, 8 security forces. 

In 2021 most casualties were in Manipur at 32 (9 civilians, 5 SFs, and 18 insurgents), 24 in Assam (11 civilians, 13 insurgents), 8 in Arunachal Pradesh (1 SF, 7 insurgents) and 3 in Tripura (2 SFs, 1 insurgents). 

No casualties were reported in Meghalaya Mizoram and Nagaland as per the list provided for 7 states in the NE excluding Sikkim.
