Nagaland People’s Action Committee constituted to ‘carry voice of people’

Consultative meeting on Naga Political issue in Dimapur

Dimapur, June 21 (MExN): An ‘action committee’ called the Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC) was constituted on Tuesday ‘to carry out the voice of the people’ till a permanent solution to the Naga political issue is arrived at.

A resolution to constitute the Committee was passed during a consultative meeting on the Naga political issue at Hotel Saramati on June 21. The house also resolved to ask the apex Tribal Hohos to officially delegate one representative each to be a member of the committee, informed a press release from Shikuto Zalipu, Chairperson of the Peace Committee, Nagaland Gaonbura Federation (NGBF).

The release also stated that the house unanimously resolved to press upon the Government of India (GoI) and the two Naga negotiating groups “to conclude the ongoing negotiations on the basis of the understanding that has reached in between the GoI and the Naga negotiators on October 31, 2019.” 

The house further resolved to stage a public rally and other follow up actions. “The Nagas of Nagaland shall stand as one entity and we shall collectively react to any discriminative action meted out to any individual or community by any element in self defence,” the release stated.

According to the release, the meeting was initiated and organised by the NGBF, as a platform to “express and elaborate as to what step we as a Naga must take at this crucial juncture.” All the civil society organisations, tribal bodies, public leaders and intellectuals participated in the meeting, it informed.

Maintaining that the sole purpose of the meeting was to collectively decide “what we can practically contribute for the cause of a long-standing Naga political issue and also to reassess what is left of our future political scenario,” the release stated that thorough deliberations were held following which the resolutions were passed.

Meanwhile, the release stated that the Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC) would be led by Theja Therie as Convenor; Shikuto Zalipu, Kekongchem, and Imsumongba as Co-Convenors; Khondao Ngullie as Secretary; Dr Seyievilie Mor as Finance Secretary; Representative from Naga Council Dimapur, as well as one representative each from the apex tribal hohos as members.
