Nagaland Polls: Unauthorised political campaigns reported in Longleng & Mkg

Longleng, February 15 (MExN): Incidents of unauthorised campaign and rallies, and non-adherence to ‘prescribed schedule for campaign events’ in regard to the 14th General Election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly 2023 have been reported in Longleng and Mokokchung districts.

In this concern, the DC & DEO, Longleng Dharam Raj has appealed to all the candidates to seek permission from the Returning Officer before holding campaign events, and to thoroughly acquaint themselves with the regulations and guidelines for campaign events by strictly adhering to the Model Code of Conduct. “Failure to do may result in penalty or other consequences,” the DC & DEO Longleng cautioned. 

It also informed all the contesting candidates and election agents or persons authorised candidate for inspection of election account register as per the directions of the ECI at DC office, Longleng on February 15, 20 and 23 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The DC has reiterated that all relevant documents and receipts related to election expenditure must be produced. The candidates are required to produce the register either in person or through his election agent or any other person duly authorised by him before the Expenditure Observer or designated officer.

It further informed the concerned voters who has applied for Form 12 (postal ballot) that the tentative dates and venue for casting of votes as scheduled: Police Personnel - February 20 and 21 at SP office, Longleng; Polling personnel, other officials on election duty, drivers, cleaner and handymen for 49 AC Tamlu - February 20 at ADC office, Tamlu, and for 50 AC Longleng - February 21 and 22 at DC office, Longleng. 

Meanwhile, the DC & DEO Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS has notified all concerned candidates under Mokokchung district that it has come to the notice of his office that prior permission was not taken for conducting any political rally, meetings, procession, use of vehicles, loudspeaker, etc.

Therefore, he reiterated and reminded to all the contesting candidates and political parties to obtain due permission for vehicles campaign, rallies, processions, and meeting, etc from the DEO/RO concerned to ensure smooth and peaceful process pertaining to the Election. He also drew attention to all that no election office/camp etc should be set up without the due authorisation from the appropriate authority.

Further, conducting any election-related activity without prior permission or submission of false or wrong information will amount to breaching the Model Code of Conduct and invite penalties as per the related provisions of the law, he added.
