Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): The COVID-19 tally of Nagaland rose to 6,552 on Sunday as 123 more people tested positive for the infection, the state Health and Family Welfare Department said.
The State also recorded 51 recoveries as of 3:00 pm on October 4.
According to the daily bulletin issued by the H&FW Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), of the new cases, Dimapur district reported 74, Kohima 48 while Longleng reported one new case.
Among the 51 patients that recovered and were discharged, 40 were from Dimapur, five from Tuensang, three from Kohima, two from Mokokchung and one was from Mon district.
This is the second consecutive day on which the cases have been over 100, even as the State is witnessing a surge in cases since second week of September.
With this, the total cases have gone up to 6,552, out of which 1,221 are active and 5,258 are denoted as recovered. The State has also recorded 12 deaths while five cases are denoted as positive but not COVID-19 related deaths. Five other deaths are under investigation while 51 cases have migrated from the State.
District wise status
Among the districts, Dimapur continues to be the worst hit with a total of 743 active cases at present. As per severity of cases, 33 have been categorised as ‘mild,’ two as moderate while there was one severe case. 707 active cases are asymptomatic.
Kohima now has 358 active cases out of which 349 are asymptomatic, while eight are mild symptomatic and one is moderate.
As for Mon district, it now has 75 active asymptomatic cases, Tuensang has 31 active asymptomatic cases and Mokokchung has eight such cases.
Phek and Zunheboto both have two active asymptomatic cases while Longleng and Wokha has one each.
Kiphire and Peren districts are currently the only districts without active cases.
Segregation of cases
As per the IDSP bulletin, cases among ‘traced contacts’ are on the rise, with 71 such cases reported on Sunday.
Altogether, 1,574 of the total 6,552 or 24% of COVID-19 infections in the state were attributed to traced contacts.
The highest concentration of cases however remains among ‘Armed forces/Security personnel’ with 42 new cases on Sunday, taking the total to 3,101 cases or 47%.
Four ‘returnees/travellers’ also tested positive on Sunday, taking its tally to 1,523 or 24 % on Sunday.
Among ‘front line workers,’ six new cases were detected on October 10, taking the total to 354 or 5% of the total cases.
