Nagaland registers health workers for COVID-19 vaccine

About 19,000 health workers and frontline workers in the state have been registered to receive COVID-19 vaccine in the first phase, health officials said on Tuesday.

During an interaction with the media at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, Dr Nyanthung Kikon, Nodal Officer for the state IDSP  said that the department is waiting for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to announce the first phase.

While administering of vaccine requires huge logistic arrangements, Dr Kikon said, “We are adequately prepared to carry out the first phase for our health workers and frontliners.” Vaccination will be done in the respective districts taking ease of accessibility into consideration, he added.

Meanwhile, the two-member fact finding team, comprising Dr MD Jamil, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong and Dr SR Karmakar, AIIH&PH, Kolkata, arrived in the state on December 13 to conduct an in-depth review of the state's COVID-19 response. It was informed that the duo held meetings with the District Task Forces, visited COVID hospitals, and COVID Care Centers both in Dimapur and Kohima. 

The duo however declined to disclose any findings till a report is officially submitted to the state authority. 

To this end, Dr Kikon said it will be made known as soon as their findings are received and necessary actions will be taken.

Meanwhile one of the team members cautioned that there is a likelihood of increase in COVID-19 infection with the onset of winter season along with festivities and weddings. He therefore, advised the citizens of the state to strictly follow the guidelines and advisories issued by the government.
