Nagaland reports 27 new COVID-19 cases this week

Nagaland reported 27 new COVID-19 cases this week (April 3-9). According to the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme’s (IDSP) weekly COVID roundup released on April 10, the cases were detected from a total of 2189 samples returning a positivity rate of 1.2 percent. It included 20 traced contacts and 7 travellers. 

The positivity rate on the whole was still high at 9 percent though it was lower than the previous week’s 9.2 percent. As far as testing rate was concerned, it increased to 68 per thousand population from the previous week’s 67 per thousand. 

At the district level, the rate was 144 per thousand and in Kohima, 142 per thousand. These two districts have had the highest share of cases at a combined to of 10,543 (Dimapur- 6507, Kohima- 4036), as on April 9. Each of the two districts positivity rate was higher than the state’s at 12 percent for Dimapur and 10 percent for Kohima. 

There were no new fatalities with the death toll unchanged at 91 (10 not COVID related). However, the IDSP cautioned that death among the 45 years and above persons have been high at 2.6 percent than the overall rate of 0.6 percent. It said, “Vaccines offer the best chance against severe disease or death and all eligible citizens should get protected at the earliest. COVID-19 is not just a flu.”
