Dimapur, February 7 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) on Saturday came out in support of the ongoing agitation by the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG) 2015 batch, accusing the state government of reneging on its commitment to regularise their services.
In a press release, the RPP stated that following sustained protests by the ANATG in 2018 and 2022, the State Government had constituted a High-Powered Committee (HPC), which, according to the party, clearly stipulated that the services of the adhoc teachers would be regularised within a specified timeframe.
While not delving into the merits or demerits of the issue, the party asserted that the government has since backtracked on this assurance.
Terming the present protest “completely justified,” the RPP alleged that the ANATG-2015 was forced to resume agitation due to what it described as a betrayal by the NPF–BJP coalition government.
The party urged the state government to treat the matter with seriousness and fulfil its commitment without further delay, cautioning against what it called continued delay tactics. It maintained that an issue affecting the future and livelihoods of thousands of teachers and students should not be allowed to linger for years, and described the government’s approach as insensitive and reflective of misplaced priorities.
Stating that good governance begins with treating employees with dignity and respect, the RPP criticised the government for what it termed the prolonged suffering of adhoc teachers.
The party also cautioned the authorities against escalating the issue, stressing that democratic protests, including gathering, raising slogans and submitting memoranda, should not be construed as anti-government activities.
It called on those in positions of power to avoid differential treatment of what it described as a voiceless minority seeking their rights and dignity.
