Nagaland SCPCR working for children in conflict with laws

District level consultation on Child Rights and Protection held at Wokha

Wokha, August 7 (MExN): At present the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) is working for the children who are in conflict with laws and children in need of care and protection in collaboration with the various stakeholders in respective district.  

This was stated by Awan Konyak, Chairperson Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) in her address during the District level consultation on Child Rights and Protection organized by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Nagaland in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Wokha.  

The Chairperson stated that the Commission was set up in October 2013 for better and effective implementation of the Integrated Child Protection Scheme in the State. She further stated that children are the asset of the nation so it is the collective responsibility of everyone to ensure the children to have a dignity and meaningful life in a safe environment.  

Wokha District Child Protection Officer, Sekho Dawhuo in a press release stated that Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS was the special guest in the programme. The special guest in his speech stated that children are the most vulnerable section in the society therefore, protection of children by society, community and the village is essential. Therefore, the DC Wokha urged upon the stakeholders present in the programme to give due care due attention and due dignity towards the children for their psychological development. He also shared his concerned that there are some social issues that detrimental to the welfare and well-being of the child.  

The district level consultation programme was chaired by Sekho Dawhuo, DCPO Wokha, Rev. S. Thungrio Khuvung Asst. Pastor WTBC invoke God’s blessing. Short speeches on child friendly legal services for children, district child protection mechanism and stakeholders for child protection were delivered by District Legal Service Authority Wokha, District Child Protection Unit Wokha and Child Welfare Committee Wokha respectively.  

Presentation on child protection issue in Wokha and closing remarks by the Superintendent Wokha and member, SCPCRN respectively. The programme was attended by the Local Church Pastor, Youth leaders, Student leaders, colony chairman, Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) and women leaders.
