Kohima, November 7 (MExN): The State College of Teachers Education, Kohima (SCTE) celebrated its Golden Jubilee (1975-2025) at the Capital Convention Centre on November 7. The event was held under the theme ‘Empowering Teachers, Enriching lives’.
In her address, the principal of Mokokchung College of Teachers Education, Dr T Alemla Longkumer, described education as a “vehicle of change” and teachers as the “main agents” of this change, according to a DIPR report.
Dr Longkumer emphasised that self-empowerment is crucial for teachers to meet modern challenges and respond to the unprecedented changes of the times.
She highlighted the rapid evolution in the education sector, noting the transition “from computer assisted learning to computer based learning to AI based learning.”
“The impact this change has made is unprecedented,” she stated, adding that “in a few years time, lots of profession will be out of demand.” In this context, she remarked that teachers must also adapt and continuously update their skills with the latest technologies.
In his speech, Fazl Ali College Principal Dr I Wati Imchen described the completion of fifty years as a “remarkable achievement,” stating that the Jubilee marks not just the passage of time but the “enduring legacy of an institution that has been at the heart of teacher education” in the state.
Dr Imchen said that for five decades, the SCTE has been a “pillar of academic excellence,” preparing generations of teachers who have shaped the “moral and intellectual character” of schools and communities.
He highlighted the institution's “invaluable contribution” to the progress of education in Nagaland through its role in teacher training, curriculum design, and pedagogical innovation.
V Lovitoly Sema, NCS, the Ex-Officio Director of the Higher Education Department, stated that the 50-year journey of the SCTE is not merely a measure of time but a testament to truth, resilience, and commitment to the cause of education in the state.
She highlighted the SCTE's expanding academic scope and its five decades of dedicated service, which have produced generations of teachers who have carried its values to every corner of the state, bringing light and knowledge to countless learners.
“Teachers are the torch bearers of change and empowering teachers is investing in the moral and intellectual wealth of our society,” Sema added.
She further emphasised that with the advent of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the college is poised to play a crucial role in imparting holistic education and transforming this vision into reality.
Earlier, Sarita Yadav, IAS Secretary, Higher & Technical Education virtually unveiled the Golden Jubilee Monolith and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Prof. N. Venuh released the Jubilee Souvenir and Memento.
