Nagaland SEWA launches first women-run center

Kohima, January 29 (MExN): The Nagaland Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) Shakti Kendra (SSK) launched its first women-run centre at Angami Women Organisation (AWO) Building, Kohima on January 29.

The launch programme was chaired by Bounuo Zuyie, SEWA Agevan and attended by SEWA executives, unit representatives, North East Network and well-wishers. A brief introduction was presented by State Project Coordinator Temjenlemla Longkumer and officially opened with a mass payer.

The State will have three centers in total with two more centers which will be opened at 5th mile, Dimapur and Pfutsero town in February, according to an update from Nagaland SEWA.

The service centre will cater to the needs of both urban and rural population of women and ease the procedure of availing public services at subsidized rates. It will also disseminate related information, help with documentation, and facilitate members’ access to public services, it said.

Capacity building trainings and awareness programmes for grassroot women leaders for further dissemination of information in the communities will be provided by the centers. 

The centre is supported by SEWA Bharat under the Udyami: Building Resilience of Women Micro-entrepreneurs program funded by USAID, Nagaland SEWA informed.
