Dimapur, November 6 (MExN): The North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) under its springshed management programme installed a solar-powered submersible pump at the perennial spring named Mudobu in Lozaphuhu Village, Phek on November 5.

According to the press release received here, it stated more than 600 households in Lozaphuhu village has long struggled with acute water scarcity, particularly from December to March and that the village depended on three springs wherein two of this yield less than 20% of their daily requirement.

NEIDA informed that the installation of the pump was done with the funding support from Titan Company Limited (TCL) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

It stated that the automatic solar pump comprises of 30 solar panels of 545 watts each generating sufficient energy to operate a 5 HP pump; capable of lifting up to 30,000 litres of water per hour to a storage reservoir located about 300 meters uphill from the spring site.

“The system is equipped with an automatic floating sensor that regulates pumping based on the water level in the reservoir tank, ensuring efficient operation and power use even on days with limited sunlight,” it stated.

With this, it affirmed that the solar pump will now replace the village’s earlier diesel-powered pump, offering an environmentally sustainable and economically efficient alternative as the new system was completely solar-based, ensuring that water pumping operations rely entirely on renewable solar energy.

While also reducing operational costs drastically, it stated that the solar system eliminates pollution and dependency on fossil fuels making it a model for clean, community-driven water supply scheme in rural Nagaland.
