Nagaland: Special Newborn Care Unit in Kiphire inaugurated

Kiphire, September 22 (MExN): Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) was inaugurated at District Hospital, Kiphire (DHK) by Dr R Chubala Aier, Chief Medical Officer, on September 21.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Dr R Chubala Aier conveyed appreciation to Dr Longri Kichu, Consultant UNICEF, and DHK staff for the efforts they put in to make SNCU operable in the district. She thanked the DH&FW for providing the infrastructure and manpower, to which she said the district should take advantage of the facility.

Stating that SNCU will greatly benefit the people of Kiphire, CMO urged everyone to continuously work on this and move forward. Mentioning that the government and department have done their part, she said it is the duty of the district now to use the facility to its optimum and reduce infant mortality in the district.

Meanwhile, Dr Longri Kichu said the SNCU will cater to the needs of the sick newborns and neonates requiring special attention in the district. “The facility will greatly help in improving health services for newborns thereby reducing infant mortality in the district,” he stated.
