Kohima, December 7 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee   (NPCC) today accused the Nagaland State Government of mishandling of the situation of the Oting firing incident and its aftermath and said it resulted in “escalation of the massacre.”

The death of another civilian in Mon on December 5 as well as many injuries and damage to properties was due to the mishandling, maintained NPCC in a press release from its President K Therie.

The press release, issued after a visit by an NPCC delegation to Oting Village and attending the last rites with family members, the village and the community of the December 4 incident, further highlighted various ‘mishandling’ by the State Government.

As per the NPCC account, after the December 4 firing incident, the villager had informed Superintendent of Police Mon but alleged that “they were restrained from going down to the site.”

The villager waited until 7pm and decided to go. However, the common sense of the VG Commander of the village stopped everyone from carrying any type of weapon. They went down empty handed, some on bikes, others on foot, it said.

What transpired thereafter that fateful evening is in public domain, it pointed out, adding: “During 4pm-7pm, the State Government completely failed.” Several of the injured did not go to hospital due to the distance and the villagers also did not know two were taken by the army to Dibrugarh Hospital, the NPCC said.

Even on December 5, the State Government “deliberately let loose after post mortem at Mon,” it alleged. “What was the necessity of shifting the bodies to Mon is best known after knowing that they were all shot dead,” it questioned, attributing further escalation of the situation to such action.

It further informed that the Congress has put up a demand to Prime Minister Modi for justice to the victims and compensation of Rs 1 crore to the deceased, Rs 10 lakhs to the injured and adequate compensation for properties damaged.

The NPCC also maintained that had the Naga solution had been implemented, “the dastardly incident affecting scores of families would not have happened.”
