Dimapur, May 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) delivered an impressive performance at the 2nd Meghalaya Open Taekwondo Championship held at Laban Sports Club, Shillong, from May 15 to 17, securing a total of 33 medals, including 13 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze medals.
A 38-member Nagaland contingent comprising athletes from Sports Academy Kohima, Chumoukedima District Taekwondo Association (CDTA), Kohima District Taekwondo Association (KDTA) and Wokha District Taekwondo Association (WDTA) participated in the championship, according to a DIPR report.
The team was led by coaches Visabiu Peseyie and Santsuthung Ngullie, with Ram Bahadur serving as team manager and T Alem Aier accompanying the team as NTA official.
Nagaland’s gold medal winners were Kumchun Kikon (Under-18 kg), Shiusuthong (Under-38 kg), Mahei Nren (Under-23 kg), Shiuthong (Under-35 kg), Sudeh Lamliu (Under-33 kg), Huthuka Dennis Kinimi (Under-37 kg), Humuyo Chizo (Under-57 kg), Khunou P (Under-61 kg), Pauziehube Herie (Under-45 kg), Wonchibemo R Ngullie (Under-45 kg), S Bovito Chophy (Under-63 kg), Vilabizo Nagi (Under-73 kg) and Veisalu Dozo (Under-62 kg).
Silver medalists included Samzailungbe Hega, Keyichangbe Hega, Keyizieteibe Zelui, Kumkiu, Senthano L Tungoe, Nzangbeni C Kikon, Avungi N Ngullie, Thungben Lotha, Randanbemo Z Kikon, Andrew N Lotha, Kezevino Seyie and Sonpari Kumari.
Bronze medals were secured by Chumchanbeni L Tungoe, Vanya Leah Kinghen, Lichibeni R Lotha, Ajanthung A Ezung, Senjumbeni Y Kithan, Anguvika Jimomi, Elizabeth Ezung and Menuovilie.
Adding to the team’s achievement, coach Visabiu Peseyie was conferred the Best Coach Award of the championship for his contribution and guidance.
The NTA also acknowledged the Director of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, along with the presidents of KDTA, CDTA and WDTA, for their support and efforts in promoting sports among the younger generation.
