Nagaland to train GST Sahyogis for small businesses

Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): A two-week Goods and Services Tax (GST) capacity building training programme for Nagaland is set to be held in September 2025 at CGST Dimapur.

The training is  aimed at creating a cadre of trained local youth to serve as GST Sahyogis and assist businesses, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), with procedural GST compliance and will be conducted by resource persons from the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) Shillong, stated a press release from Central GST Dimapur.

It focus on practical aspects of GST such as registration, filing of returns, payment of taxes, e-invoicing, and addressing common compliance challenges and include hands on training on the GSTN portal.

The initiative addresses the acute shortage of professional Chartered Accountants and GST practitioners in many towns and rural areas of Nagaland, which often leads to small businesses and traders struggling with compliance, responding to “departmental notices, often risking non-compliance or penalties.”

By building local capacity, the programme seeks to bridge the rural-urban gap in access to affordable GST compliance assistance and “simultaneously generating meaningful employment for the educated youth of Nagaland.”

The objective of the GST Sahyogi programme includes equip local, educated youth in Nagaland with practical GST skill sets tailored for the local businesses; establish a cadre of certified GST Sahyogis available to the business community for affordable, accessible GST-related assistance covering all districts of Nagaland; and Foster compliant business practices, contributing to better tax administration and Government revenue.

On successful completion, candidates will be issued a “GST Sahyogi” Certificate. Their names and contact details will be displayed at local GST offices and relevant public platforms, enabling businesses to access their services directly. Periodic refresher sessions and a support network will be established for continued upskilling.

In this regard, the CGST Commissionerate and the State Taxes Department Nagaland have reached out to local trade associations to assist in identifying suitable participants who can be nominated to attend this 2-weeks certificate course. “This is an important capacity-building initiative, which has the potential to contribute significantly to strengthening GST compliance at the grassroots level in Nagaland.”
