Nagaland Trade, Investment and Industrial Policy soon

The draft Nagaland Trade, Investment and Industrial Policy and Nagaland State Food Processing Industries Policy has been framed and is likely to be adopted by this year.


This was stated by Er. Asenla Walling, Executive Engineer, Department of Industries & Commerce Nagaland at the state level workshop on ‘Digital MSME’ (Micro, Small and Medium, Enterprises) here today at AMK Hall, Kohima, organized by Common Service Centre (CSC) E-Governance Services India Limited.


The mission of Nagaland Trade, Investment and Industrial Policy is to create a business friendly environment with simplified procedures and improved infrastructures, so as to encourage innovative entrepreneurial skills, taking advantage of modern technology and local strengths, fostering competitive industrial growth and investment, thereby creating employment opportunities and enhancing the State’s economic status, resulting in better living standards.


The objective of the policy is to build, strengthen and facilitate a sound industrial eco-system in the state whereby rapid, sustained development and growth of commerce and industry is enabled.


The thrust areas for industrial development and investment opportunities include: Food Processing industries, Tourism Industry, Agro-based industries, Mineral based industries, Handloom and Handicrafts, Sericulture, Apparel and Garment industries, Electronics and IT, Pharmaceuticals, Cane & Bamboo Processing/manufacturing Industries, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants and value added products, Renewable Energy, Waste Management, Power, Hospitality & Healthcare etc. 

 

State Food Processing Industries Policy
This policy envisions propelling the overall development and growth of food processing in the state by setting up strong infrastructural facilities throughout the value chain and bringing about more participation into the food processing industry sector. This will reduce wastage of produce, bringing remunerative returns to the farmers, ensuring food security and creating more employment avenues towards achieving a sustainable economy.


The resources & potential sector include agriculture and horticulture, livestock and poultry, fishery, Bee keeping and honey keeping.


The identified food processing areas includes pulse, cereal and millet based processing and value addition. It also pertains to items like rice processing, spice processing, fruit and vegetable processing etc. The derivatives include beverages, dehydrated products, canning, pickle, sauce, jam, preserves, confectionery, pulp, concentrates etc. 


The policy also focuses on creation of infrastructural facilities for cold chain, primary processing centers, collection centers and integrated pack houses, including modernization of meat shops, reefer vehicles, refrigerated logistic systems, food testing labs, incubation centers, training centers and common processing centers.
