Nagaland University hosts tech fest, space outreach and women's workshop

Kohima, November 8 (MExN): Nagaland University has hosted as series of event during November 5 to including the TechAura-2025, a regional outreach programme and international workshop on women’s voices.

TechAura-2025: The School of Engineering & Technology (SET) at Nagaland University concluded its three-day national-level technical festival TechAura-2025. Held from November 5 to 7 at the university's Kohima campus in Meriema, the festival was organised under the theme “Where Insights Ignite Innovation.”

The event was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, who emphasised the role of technological advancement in the Indian Knowledge System and urged students to lead in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The inaugural session was attended by Prof N Venuh, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Kohima Campus; Rupin Sharma, IPS, Director General of Police, Nagaland; and Prof Sujata Dash, Dean of SET.

In his keynote address, Rupin Sharma spoke on cybercrime and cybersecurity, encouraging students to understand digital threats and take proactive steps towards technological safety.

Prof. Sujata Dash, in her welcome address, highlighted the importance of such events in fostering innovation and collaboration.

Over the three days, the festival featured more than 20 events, including model presentations, robotics competitions, a truss bridge design challenge, and a “Battle of the Bands.” The events saw active participation from students across the region.

The valedictory ceremony on November 7 was graced by L Lanuwabang, Director & Scientist 'F' at NIELIT Kohima, and Abhishek Mishra, Additional Director & Officer-in-Charge of STPI Kohima. They motivated students to pursue excellence in technology and adapt to the fast-changing technological landscape.

TechAura, which began in 2010, has grown into one of the most anticipated technical festivals in the region.

Regional Outreach Programme: A Regional Outreach Programme on ‘Igniting Young Minds Through Science & Space’ was held at Nagaland University on November 7, as a precursor to the National Space Science Symposium 2026.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, who inspired participants by highlighting the transformative power of student innovation.
The event featured addresses by senior scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the North East Space Applications Centre (NESAC).

Dr Himanshu Pandey, Web Information Manager at ISTRAC, ISRO Bangalore, encouraged students to explore careers in space research and detailed the evolution of India's space program.

Dr. Arup Borogohain, Senior Scientist at NESAC, outlined the societal benefits of space technology, including applications in disaster management, agriculture, and geotourism.

The National Space Science Symposium 2026, jointly initiated by ISRO, Bangalore, and NESAC, Umiam, is scheduled for February 2026 in Meghalaya.

The outreach event saw participation from about one hundred students and faculty members, who engaged in lively discussions on space science and technology.

International workshop on women’s voices: An international workshop on women’s voices in collaboration with Centre for Women’s Development Studies and Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Germany was organised on November 6 and 7 in the Department of English, Nagaland University.

The workshop was sponsored by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Germany. Ten women each from Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland participated in the workshop. An exhibition of their handicraft products and books was also held.

Research scholars and teachers of Department of English also participated in the workshop. Other participants were Prof N Manimekalai, Director, Centre for Women’s Development Studies, New Delhi, Prof Nitha N, CWDS, Patricia Mukhim from Meghalaya, Monalisa Changkija, Sano Vamuzo, Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu from Nagaland, Renu Koyu, R Chai, and Jarjum G Ete from Arunachal Pradesh, Melissa Fernandes, Goa, and Neha Naqvi, RLS, South Asia.

The participants deliberated on the women’s rights, customary laws and issues on women’s age-old sufferings and ways to solve their problems. Stories of resistance, change and solidarity were narrated, debated and resolutions as per Indian laws were contrived. It is also discussed about PIL and solutions as per laws where customary laws failed.
