27307 in Nagaland take jabs during ‘Vaccination Festival’
Morung Express News
Dimapur | April 18
A total of 32436 doses were administrated in Nagaland during the April 10-16 period, the best weekly vaccination figure since start of the process on January 16.
While the weekly tally of doses was considerably enhanced as a result of the 4-day intensive national campaign christened ‘Vaccination Festival’ (Tika Utsav) from April 11-14, the inoculation process has gained little momentum in April after the opening up for 45 and above category.
According to Weekly Bulletins by the State's Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) under the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DoFHW), the figure for week ending April 9 was also 19,206, a over 50% increase from the previous week figure of 8080.
Overall, the cumulative doses administrated as of April 17 was 145858, representing an upward trend and considerable improvement since April 2, when the figure was just 89,349.
Help from unlikely quarters?
The slight increase in detection of new cases in the Nagaland amid the surging ‘second wave’ of COVID-19 across India may have contributed to more people seeking vaccines besides the vaccination for 45 and above category.
“We will have more this week. Demands are really shooting up. The cases (new) helped,” a State health official had told The Morung Express last week, without elaborating further.
The April 17 IDSP bulletin confirmed his calculation as vaccination data was highest on Monday (April 12) at 8015 and the figures for the next two day were also high, though it coincided with the ‘festival.’
Concern area
While dosage figures are increasing, the vaccination among healthcare workers (HCWs) remains a concern area. As of April 16, only 13311 of HCWs have received their 1st dose so far, an improvement of just 791. Only 397 of them received the doses previous week ending April 9.
However, vaccinations among frontline workers (FCWs) continue to be robust and increased from 38,903 last week to 42478 this week – up by 3575. A total of 20857 FCWs have also received their 2nd dose.
As per a review meeting of the Nagaland State Task Force held on February 11, there are a total of 21,549 registered HCWs and 51,718 registered frontline workers (FLWs) in the state. Accordingly, while 82.13% of FCWs have received their 1st dose, only 61.77% of HCWs are vaccinated so far. It must be noted here that HCWs were first to be administrated the vaccine since January 16.
A total of 11704 in the 45-59 years category have also received their 1st dose while 17151 persons in 60 years and above category have been vaccinated with 1st dose till April 16.
Meanwhile, as per the CoWIN Dashboard maintained by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of vaccination in Nagaland on April 17 was 1377.
The figure for April 18 at 8.30pm was 850, taking the cumulative figure to nearly 1.5 lakh (1, 48,085)
However, it should be noted here that due to time lag in reconciling data of offline sessions in Nagaland and some other states, the daily and total figures on the Dashboard are always lesser than the actual doses. So far vaccination is highest in Dimapur, followed by Kohima and Mokokchung. It is lowest in Kiphire, followed by Longleng and Peren from the bottom.
Meanwhile, an official release informed that a total of 27307 people took COVID-19 vaccine jabs during the four-day 'vaccination festival', averaging around 6826 per day.
Mokokchung witnessed the highest number of vaccinations during the four-day campaign at 6596, followed by Dimapur (5719) and Mon (3100). It was lowest in Kiphire at (417), followed by Longleng (684) and Peren (1134).
