Nagaland’s 4th Special Newborn Care Unit launched in Mon

SNCU was launched at DH Mon on November 16 during the National Newborn Week, 2021.

Mon, November 17 (MExN): District Health Society, Mon inaugurated SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) during the launching of National Newborn Week 2021 on November 16 at District Hospital, Mon by Additional Director and SPO (RMNCAH+N) Dr Temjentsungla in the presence of Deputy Director (Child Health), State Consultant (RMNCAH+N) UNICEF, Chief Medical Officer Mon, heads of the department and other staff.

Speaking at the programme, Dr Temjentsungla thanked Dr Chimang Paul paediatrician and District Hospital staff for the initiative to make the much awaited SNCU operable. She announced that the District Hospital Mon will be the fourth in the state to get SNCU under National Health Mission.

She also highlighted the objectives of SNCU and proclaimed that the District will now have an access to the highest level of medical care as any other well equipped hospitals.

She also said that the facility will make an impact on erasing the neonatal death in the first critical few days of life, as the neonatal period prepares the highest risk of mortality and if not cared for, it might lead to development delays and lifelong morbidity.

She also spoke on the celebration of National Newborn Week, its aims and the recently launched SAANS (Social Awareness and Actions to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully).

Dr Temjentsungla requested all the doctors and nurses to work with commitment in delivering services to the needy ones.

Marking the National Newborn Week 2021 with the theme ‘Safety, Quality and Nurturing case- Birth Right of every new born', DrChenjei, MO Shangnyu PHC presented on its background, key domains and activities- facility based newborn care, monitoring visits to SNCU/NBSU, home based new born care visits by Ashas, and comprehensive newborn screening.

After the programme, the Additional Director gifted presents to the newborns in the hospital.

The programme was chaired by Dr CL Peter MO DH, Mon. Earlier, the programme started with a dedicatory prayer by YP David, Chaplain DH, Mon while welcome address was delivered by Dr Kechongol Sophie CMO, Mon, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Wungyong SMO DH, Mon.
