Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): Nagaland athletes put up an impressive performance for India at the 10th Asian Senior Pencak Silat Championship held in Dong Nai City, Vietnam, from July 15 to 23, with Avikali V Sheqi winning a bronze medal.

Representing India, Sheqi secured the bronze after losing to an Indonesian opponent in the semi-finals, adding another international medal to India’s tally.

Another Nagaland athlete, Kevin, advanced to the quarter-finals before narrowly missing out on a medal after a spirited campaign against some of Asia’s top competitors.

The Nagaland Pencak Silat Association said the latest achievement extends the state’s strong record at the continental event.

At the 9th Asian Senior Pencak Silat Championship in 2025, Nagaland’s Kitenlo K. Thono had won a silver medal, while Hinokali secured a bronze for India.

The association said the back-to-back success at the Asian Championships reflected the dedication of the athletes, coaches and officials in developing the sport in Nagaland.

Congratulating the Indian Pencak Silat Federation and the athletes, the association said it remains committed to strengthening grassroots development and preparing more sportspersons from the state to represent India in future continental and world championships.
