Laxmi Kumari, Semester VI (Commerce), MGM College
Standing at the threshold of completing my B.Com at MGM College, one truth has become unmistakably clear—education is not confined to textbooks; it comes alive in the world around us. What we once studied as theories of E-commerce and the Indian economy is now unfolding vividly in the streets and homes of Dimapur. For decades, Nagaland’s geography was seen as a limitation—a distant corner, disconnected from mainstream trade. Today, that narrative is being rewritten. The digital revolution has broken barriers that roads once could not. With just a smartphone and internet access, young Naga entrepreneurs are stepping boldly into the marketplace, turning ideas into income. From traditional attire that carries the soul of our culture, to organic produce and modern fashion, products are finding their way to customers through platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
This transformation is more than a business trend—it is a movement of hope.In a state where government jobs remain limited, the courage to create one’s own path is redefining the meaning of employment. These small digital ventures are not just sustaining individuals; they are generating livelihoods—opening doors for delivery partners, digital marketers, accountants, and many others.
Each small business is a spark, contributing to a larger flame of economic resilience. Yet, as we celebrate this rise, we must also confront the road ahead. True progress demands more—stronger digital literacy, reliable delivery infrastructure, and the transition of small ventures into recognized, sustainable enterprises. Growth must not remain informal; it must be empowered, structured, and supported. As students, we cannot remain passive observers. We are not just learners—we are stakeholders in the future of our state. The responsibility lies with us to innovate, to uplift local enterprise, and to turn knowledge into action. The story of Nagaland is changing. From isolation to integration. From limitation to opportunity. And at the heart of this transformation stands its youth—connected, creative, and courageous. The future of commerce in Nagaland is not somewhere far away. It is already here. nd it is being built—one idea, one entrepreneur, one digital step at a time.
