DIMAPUR, APRIL 26 (MExN): Nagaland’s first construction training centre at Dimapur was inaugurated by Advisor, Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Industries & Commerce Imnatiba on April 26.

The training centre developed by GlobalPeers Skilling & Development Initiatives Pvt Ltd in Sovima, Dimapur is a first of its kind in the state and offers courses in construction namely plumbing, electrician, painter and decorator, tiles, mason and bar bender.

These courses are sponsored by the government under the DDU-GKY skilling and placement initiative of the Ministry of Rural development and Nagaland state rural livelihoods mission, the company informed in a press release.

Speaking at the inaugural, Advisor Imnatiba said that very few Nagas talk about getting skilled or getting their children skilled. “First preference is to get a government job so that even if we do not go to work we will still get salary. But such dreams are a thing of the past now,” he opined. He said that even existing government jobs are much beyond the requirement.

The Advisor said that when a house is built, a considerable cost goes to the construction workers besides the material costs. He encouraged the trainees to form small groups and work with dignity. They can make a good life for themselves and find a lot of work in the state and become role models in their respective districts, he said.

He lauded the institute and said that the trainings offered by the institute were very relevant today. He appreciated the skill trainers and considered them as nation builders and encouraged them to be sincere in their work.

Speaking at the programme, Chief Executive Officer of GlobalPeers Rohit Chandra said that the company has already started receiving positive response from within and outside the state. He said that many of the trainees will be employed by an American construction company currently building the US embassy in India.

The programme was chaired by Prem Kumar Kothapalli, the dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev Moses Murry and vote of thanks by Dr Yan Murry, Director, GlobalPeers.
