DIMAPUR, AUGUST 9 (MExN): Thomas Ngullie’s recent appointment as a member of the general council under the Centre’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for persons with multiple disabilities may spell a new era for the physically challenged across the breadth of the Northeast.
During an interaction at his Dimapur residence today, Thomas said he would endeavour to highlight problems faced by physically less-privileged persons and sought the help of the media in creating a databank. He asked NGOs to be “seriously involved” instead of only searching for grants.
A member of the Congress party and a former minister, Thomas claimed that he would be able to rope in necessary people, without taking into consideration political affiliation. “I don’t care which party is in power. That should not be the hindrance.”
Programs for the disabled can be organized through the Government of India in a bid to “open the eyes” of the concerned authorities in Nagaland, he added.
