Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today asserted that whatever developmental activities now taking place in Nagaland was the result of the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state. He however said that a real peace is yet to come to Nagaland and called upon each and every individual to put a concerted effort to bring real and lasting peace in Nagaland. Unveiling a monolith in commemoration of 50 glorious years of Government High School Botsa this morning, Rio also expressed concern over the disunity amongst the Nagas where they are fighting and destroying themselves.

The Chief Minister was apprehensive that until and unless peace is firmly established, whatever achievement/development the state owned today could face disruption in the event of any unfortunate clash or war and ultimately the people would land in trouble and live in miserable condition again. “We desire peace”, he said adding that a time has come to bring lasting peace in the State.

He said, Nagas, wherever they are, must be united as a family. He continued that although Nagas have been divided, yet they can unite once again as a family. He stressed on the need for emotional integration, and then to integrate politically, culturally, socially and economically as a people.

Rio said Nagas had a population of 50 lakh of which 10 lakh were in Myanmar and 40 lakh in India. In India, he said, it has divided into four states, 20 lakh in Nagaland, over 10 lakh in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh 5-6 lakhs and some in Assam.

Rio also asked the parents not to solely depend on teachers for their children education but according to him, the parent’s too have to play their role for the children’s education.

70 percent of the state population live in rural areas and engage in farming activities for livelihood while 30 percent are in the urban areas. He said government has created 22 new RD Blocks alongside the existing 52 RD blocks in the state. In this, he called upon the people of Botsa area to cooperate with the concerned officers and focus towards positive approach and plan to boost their economy. He maintained that the successful function of RD Block would bring about economic upliftment to the rural people of the state.
