
DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): A delegation of the United Naga Council (UNC), including the President and the General Secretary met P. Chidambaram, the Union Home Minister at his Delhi office in North Block on the evening of the 22nd November, 2011 and apprised him of the concerns of the Naga people on the issue of Sadar Hills upgradation. This was informed in a press note issued by the Publicity Wing UNC. According to the press note, the Union Home Minister assured the UNC team that the Government of Manipur, as committed by the Manipur Chief Minister on the 2nd November, 2011 at Tahamzam (Senapati) in his presence, would not take any unilateral decision on the Sadar Hills issue without consulting the Nagas and also that he would give an assurance to that effect in writing.
The UNC has stated that it has since received an official communication on the above meeting with the Union Home Minister from the MHA on the 24th November, 2011 alongwith with a request to lift the economic blockade on the National Highways. The UNC stated that the matter would be taken up and decision taken in the Emergency Presidential Council meeting that is being convened on the 28th November, 2011 at Tamenglong headquarters soon after the public rally on Alternative Arrangement is carried out.
