Imphal | December 3 : Seven members of Manipur People’s Party (MPP)’s youth wing on Saturday launched a “nude protest” in full public view here to protest against the visit of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The nude protestors argued that theirs was a message to bring peace and development in the State.
The nude protest was carried out by the party members to “welcome the Central leaders with a black carpet” and also to dishonour the Indian leaders’ divide and rule policy in the Northeastern States, MPP Youth Front President Maniton Mangang told reporters.
The protesters fully naked climbed up the rooftop of MPP office and shouted slogans but police rushed to the spot to stop them. They chanted, “Welcome Prime Minister of India with black carpet”, “No Supra-State Body in NE region”, “Stop divide and rule policy among the people of NE” and “Stop negligence on NE people.”
Maniton Mangang also said the nude protest was taken up against the indifferent and negligent attitude of the Central leaders towards protests and appeals being made from Manipur and NE people for their demands.
The Central government is not taking seriously the suffering of the people of Manipur who have been facing hardships due to frequent imposition of bandhs and blockades on highways even as a series of representations have been submitted to the government at the Centre but without answer, the MPP leader lamented.
He also demanded that the two leaders of UPA should clarify with regard to the issue of Supra State Body.
