Dimapur, March 10 (MExN): M Nangpa from Angjangyang village in Mon was conferred with the ‘Sabal Shining Star for Community’ at the annual Sabal Awards instituted by Tata Steel Foundation.
During the event, which was hosted online on January 20 last, a total of “67 individuals who have showcased exceptional talent and outstanding vision for themselves and the community at large” were awarded.
Nangpa from Nagaland with locomotor disability founded ‘True Inspiration Foundation’ in 2016 at Mon. He has provided training on computer application to many PwDs from Mon district free of cost.
According to a press note from the award recipient, “Since computer education is very expensive and most PWDs are from very poor family, I decided to give them a free course at my own expenditure. I want all the PwDs to be skilled and ready to work at any sector or for self-employment,” he stated.
Nangpa creates awareness on basic rights of PwDs by “going person to person.” He also plans to conduct awareness programme in every sub-division of Mon with the “help or support from government, NGOs, individuals.”
