‘National Voters’ Day is a sacred day’

Dimapur, January 25 (MExN): “In any self-respecting democracy, the National Voters’ Day is a sacred day ~ well, it ought to be a sacred day,” stated Monalisa Changkija, Editor, Nagaland Page while addressing the 6th National Voters’ Day celebrated in Dimapur at Lotha Hoho Ki as the chief guest.  

She emphasised that there are two aspects of the National Voters’ Day- the importance of the Voter and the imperatives of voting and the uniqueness of democracy as a system of governance and a culture of a people, which hinges on the Voter and her right and duty to vote. Changkija also spoke on the theme “Inclusiveness: and Qualitative Participation”  

The programme was attended by representatives of NGOs, political parties, BLOs and Government Officials. Kesonyu Yhome, IAS DC & DEO, Dimapur delivered the keynote address.  

Nganshimakok, Liven, Xavier, Khuvishe and Ehoto were awarded the best BLOs in the district. Winners of Art and Painting competition, Kavibo of GHSS Niuland, Rakhi Baidya of GHS Lengrijan and Alisosang of GHSS Medziphema and winners of  Essay competition, Avino Chopi of St. Mary’s HSS, Keviyiezelie of GHSS Medziphema and I.Sangmaichila of S.D Jain HSS were given cash awards along with certificates.
