NBCC calls for prayer over illicit liquor menace
Kohima, October 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has earnestly called upon the people to join together in corporate prayer on Sunday, October 4, 2026, during community worship or in respective homes and places, in the wake of serious concern over alcohol-related deaths and the harmful effects of illicit and suspected spurious liquor in the state.
In its appeal, the NBCC urged people not to respond only with words, arguments or blame, but to come before God in humility and prayer, and to continue praying for grieving families, those who are suffering, young people, civil society and community organizations working to protect the people, and all authorities entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the law.
The Council observed that alcohol consumption has brought serious consequences to individuals, families and communities, affecting physical and mental well-being, relationships, family life, personal responsibility and the future of young people, and said the recent deaths and illnesses reportedly associated with suspected spurious or adulterated liquor have once again reminded people of the seriousness of the concern and the value of protecting human life.
Stating that as followers of Christ they are called to care for one another, protect life, uphold what is good for families and communities, and pray for the well-being of the land, the NBCC said the Church has a continuing responsibility to pray, speak for the protection of life, strengthen families, educate people and stand for what is good and wholesome for society.
The Council therefore urged all to pray and seek God's mercy, wisdom and intervention for individuals and families affected by alcohol, for those working to protect communities, for churches, and for the State Government and authorities entrusted with the responsibility of upholding and enforcing the law.
