Dimapur, December 1 (MExN): Dimapur based Naga civil societies have appealed for the pending litigation in the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) issue to be cleared at the earliest.
The civil societies comprising of the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF), Dimapur Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur GB Sadar and the Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) on Tuesday condemned the parties involved in the NCD imbroglio and for the creation of “unnecessary issues by some few vested individuals for their selfish interest.”
In a joint press statement, the organizations stated that “organizations/societies functions within the ambit of their respective Constitutions. That in any recognised civil societies or organisations, the members are appointed/selected/nominated either by the Election Commission or by the Nominating Committee. And the nature of selecting/setting up of Election Commission or the Nominating Committee is done by the outgoing members/executives. Thereafter, the Election commission/nominating Committee does the necessary procedures to form the Council of executives/members within the ambit of the constitution.”
They noted that new aspiring candidate/members have no constitutional right to participate in selecting the Election Commission/Nominating Committee until and unless they take an oath.
“The primary objective of any civil societies/organisation is purely voluntary and for the wellbeing of the society as such it is illogical/ irrational for any individual trying to breach the constitution of the society/organisation where he/she desires to get accommodated,” they asserted.
The civil societies further observed that the Naga council Dimapur, is one of the oldest and most respected civil society in the State and added that it is ‘disheartening’ that the office has remained non functional for the past 5 months.
“And it is evident that, their absence has a larger negative impact for its citizens at this crucial period of time,” they added.
Therefore, in connection to the pending litigation for the Naga Council Dimapur issue, the Dimapur –based civil societies appealed for an early judgment to be passed “in the interest of justice to the citizens of Dimapur.”
