Dimapur, November 11 (MExN): Five Dimapur- based ‘mass civil societies’ leaders have endorsed the installation of new office bearers of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) and expressed displeasure over case filed against the office.
The new team has been installed and approved with the required number of councillors present as per NCD’s constitution, asserted a joint statement from the five organisations.
Accordingly, the question of “entertaining a consequent petition by the vested interest party for the same should not arise,” argued the statement appended by Presidents of GB’s Sardar Union, Dimapur; Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation; Naga Women Hoho Dimapur; Dimapur Naga Students’ Union; and Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum.
While sharing the background of the NCD as well as its journey over the years, the joint statement said that the leaders of mass civil societies of Dimapur expressed concerned that “few new comer members” are virtually trying to “jeopardize the integrity” of the NCD, which has been tirelessly contributing to the needs of the society for the past 71 years.
The statement also expressed concern over the passing of the restraining “order after 32 days of case hearing.” They further charged the petitioners of intenting to ‘sabotage the good image of the NCD office.’
The organisations, meanwhile, said that since its establishment preceding the statehood of Nagaland in 1949, the NCD which was initially known as Naga Club has been instrumental in nurturing fraternity and unity in the early days of Dimapur.
It played a unifying role for all communities within Dimapur and assisted the local administration, law enforcing agency, towards maintaining tribal and communal harmony and law & order situations, it said.
The NCD also strove to protect the rights and identity of Naga's against discrimination and military terror and atrocities in the early days of Naga movement in Dimapur sector and became de facto tribal authority with autonomous power to act and decide on civil or tribal issues, it added.
As such, the council remained a time-tested Naga institution and not an NGO per se as commonly perceived and exercised public mandate to uphold peace and harmony among all citizens within Dimapur, the statement further maintained
The voluntary “yeomen service” of NCD and its affiliated bodies is being enjoyed to the fullest by all denizens including the administration, law makers, business community, institutions, departments etc, it said.
It must be note here that the newly inducted executives of the NCD have been directed to restrain from functioning as office bearers of the organisation “till further order” in a ruling passed by the Civil Judge (Senior Division), Dimapur on October 19. As per the order, the Interlocutory Application No 93/2020 “arising out of Civil Suit No. 6/2020” was filed by three petitioner(s) contending the legality of the induction of the NCD office bearers. The petitioners are J Walter Longchar, S Mar Aier and Chovose Nienu, the statement informed.
