Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) President Ghokheto Chophy passed away on December 11 in New Delhi after a prolonged illness.
Confirming the news, NCD General Secretary Thsapongkyu Sangtam informed The Morung Express that Chophy, who had been in New Delhi for medical treatment, passed away in the evening of December 11.
According to sources, he had reportedly undergone a kidney transplant at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi.
While the transplant was successful, late Chophy had suffered some complications after the surgery.
State Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) Yanthungo Patton condoled the NCD President’s demise.
“In Mr. Ghokheto Chophy, President of Naga Council Dimapur, Nagas have suffered a terrible loss today. A thorough gentleman and someone who’d lead from the front, Mr. Chophy’s untimely death has shaken and shocked us all. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace!,” the Deputy CM wrote on Twitter.
