NCF Dibrugarh celebrates 50th anniversary

The special guests with NCF Dibrugarh members during the jubilee celebration on October 31.

Dibrugarh, November 1 (MExN): MLA for 47 Aboi Assembly Constituency E Eshak Hessum underlined that the present Naga society has become more fragmented and divided into different groups and likewise, associations as well as churches and student bodies are formed in different names, principles and ideologies.

He was speaking at the 50th year anniversary celebration of the Naga Christian Fellowship Dibrugarh, Assam in Dibrugarh on October 31.

The MLA underscored that churches and student bodies instead should be the foundation of peace, unity and integrity and described jubilee as a symbolism of forgiveness, and striving forward with renewed spirit for peace and unity.

Hessum added that the existence of NCF, should serve not only as a religious motive, but also be a platform for intermingling of ideas and cultural exchange as it takes a community for social interaction which is pivotal to social changes at large.

The younger generation, he said, had become westernised and ignorant of their origin, culture and traditions. According to the MLA, Nagamese should be the medium of communication because such practices could to a large extend, cement Naga culture more and would signify the unity of Nagas.

Gracing the occasion, General Secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Churches Council Reverend Dr Zelhou Keyho opined that attaining 50 years signifies the fulfillment of the vision of Naga Christian Fellowship—that is, to bring together young people for fellowship.

Stating that the Northeast region of India is 183 years old in Christianity, he said 50 years is not far from it and at the same time NCF Dibrugarh was one of the oldest NCF ministries for which one has to be thankful to God. He was speaking in the context of the Nagas being very global in their understanding of history but forgetting their own history, the release stated.

Commenting that jubilee is a year of liberation, he called the gathering to proclaim God's faithfulness, justice and righteousness. Similarly, he said while it is a general celebration, Zelhou called on the gathering to transform thanklessness and ungratefulness to becoming full of praise and move forward to become representatives of Christ.

Greetings were delivered by Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner, Pallav Gopal Jha; Nagaland Mission Movement, Coordinator; Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dibrugarh, Rev Fr Nicholas Kerketta and others, the release stated.

Earlier, the guest launched the Jubilee Magazine. Pastor NCF Dibrugarh, Dr Bendangjungshi gave the welcome note and responsive reading was led by Tokaho Awomi, while Pastor NCF Guwahati Peter Thong led the prayer. Meanwhile, special song was presented by International Students of Dibrugarh University, the release stated.
