NCS (Probationers) 2025 Batch with FDA Commissioner, Maharashtra, Tukaram Munde and Additional Collector and Director, YASHADA, Mrinalini Sawant
Kohima, November 5 (MExN): Nagaland Civil Service (NCS) probationers of the 2025 batch interacted with Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Munde during their Bharat Darshan tour of Maharashtra, gaining insights into food safety regulation, pharmaceutical administration and agricultural development.
The interaction covered challenges relating to counterfeit and substandard medicines, pharmaceutical licensing and inspections, and price regulation through the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).
Munde also discussed the importance of strengthening food safety enforcement through regular inspections, sampling, licensing and adjudication. He shared insights into livestock identification, animal census and dairy traceability, while highlighting challenges faced by farmers, including rising labour costs and access to agricultural support.
On leadership and administrative ethics, Munde stressed the need for continuous learning through the principles of "unlearn, relearn and learn". He said good governance depended on building efficient systems that functioned with minimal intervention. He identified people management, direct engagement with citizens, physical verification of institutions, legal competence and personal integrity as essential qualities of an effective civil servant.
The discussion also covered constructive engagement with the media, distinguishing public interest from individual interests in administrative decision-making, and maintaining financial discipline through early savings and the benefits of compounding. The interaction provided the probationers with perspectives on responsive administration, regulatory accountability and citizen-centric governance.
