Temjenmenba calls for strengthening party grassroots
Mangkolemba, August 24 (MExN): The NDPP 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency on Saturday held a general consultative meet at Mangkolemba where officials for tenure 2025-27 were nominated in the presence of MLA and Advisor for Transport & Technical Education, Temjenmenba. Several key decisions were also adopted to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Speaking at the meeting, Temjenmenba expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and NDPP State President Chingwang Konyak for allotting him the party ticket to contest the 2018 Assembly election and win the 29 Jangpetkong AC seat.
He recalled that his election campaign started only four months before the polls and said he was new to politics at the time. “However, with the wholehearted support of the Hon’ble Chief Minister and NDPP State President, the 29 Jangpetkong NDPP leaders, the general public and the grace of God, I could win the election with a significant majority,” Temjenmenba said.
The MLA admitted that being new to politics, he was in the learning process during the first two years of his term and “might have neglected the party workers while trying to focus on development in the constituency.” He asserted that with the support of the Chief Minister, development was taken to almost all the units except one, which he said would be addressed next through the LADP fund.
He described August 23 as an important day for the constituency. “It marked a new chapter where a new tenure starts and it marks the revamp and strengthening of the party,” he said.
Temjenmenba highlighted Rio’s initiatives including his visit to different countries and the recent signing of an MoU with Japan to promote youth empowerment. He also cited the activities of the Task Force for Music and Arts (TFaMA) and government’s focus on sports, adding that “the NDPP and State Government is fully focused on youth as they are the future of Nagaland.”
On strengthening the party, he urged officials to focus on units at the village level. “The party units are the foot-soldiers of the party who ultimately elect the legislators,” he said. He also called upon those leaders who are members of NGOs to clearly differentiate between the roles of political party leaders and NGOs so that “they might not hamper the working of the government but rather stand as a strong pillar supporting the different developmental programmes of the State government.”
He acknowledged the constituency’s needs, particularly at Mangkolemba headquarters, including lack of doctors at the hospital, absence of government officers and poor road conditions. He assured that all the issues had been shared with the Chief Minister and other cabinet ministers and would be addressed within his term.
The MLA also extended support to an agenda to conduct a free medical camp at Mangkolemba and assured assistance to make it a success.
In his presidential address, Aodangnok, who was re-nominated as 29 Jangpetkong AC President, encouraged party workers to give their best as a new chapter began. He said it was “not a time to remain lackadaisical but rather rejuvenated” since the MLA was working hard for the constituency.
Others who spoke included NDPP Secretary Mokokchung Region and In-charge 29 Jangpetkong AC, Lanumeren; Working President 29 Jangpetkong AC, Imtiakum; President Women Organisation NDPP 29 Jangpetkong; and President Youth Organisation NDPP 29 Jangpetkong.
