Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): The NDPP today attended a meeting of all the recognised political parties in the country under the aegis of the Election Commission of India (ECI) at New Delhi.
Abu Metha, Secretary General and Rusemtong Longkumer, General Secretary, NDPP attended the meet, a release issued by NDPP Media & Communications Committee stated.
Abu Metha, representing the party, in his address highlighted the need to combat corruption and money power in elections, electoral malpractices and the need to use technology to ensure free and fair elections, the release further added.
He also addressed the issue of women representation in the political arena and stated that the party commits to strive towards “gender equality” and added that the party will support measures aimed at introducing gender related reforms in the political arena.
The Secretary General also observed the need to use technology and biometric related measures to combat electoral malpractices like proxy voting and accuracy of electoral rolls.
Further, maintaining that the NDPP was the only political party from Nagaland to address the all party meeting, he lauded the initiative of the ECI and also appreciated the ECI for recognizing all sections of the country especially the small states and ensuring that the voice of the people are heard through such forums. He further assured that the party will continue to support and extend all possible cooperation in the common endeavours of strengthening the foundations of the world’s largest democracy. Earlier, the meeting was called to deliberate on issues related to reforms.
