Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): The seat sharing deal between the BJP and the NDPP in Nagaland will continue on to the 2023 state Assembly elections. A joint press statement from the two parties, appended by BJP’s Nagaland in charge, Nalin Kohli and NDPP Secretary General, Abu Metha informed that the decision to continue the partnership was mutually agreed by top leadership of the two parties.
“The NDPP will contest in 40 seats and the BJP will contest in 20 seats,” it said, while adding that there will be no friendly contest in any constituency. As to the constituencies, it said that a Core Committee of the two parties will decide on which party will contest which seat “at an appropriate time.”
The release recalled that the NDPP-BJP pre-poll alliance in Nagaland was formed in 2018 under the “visionary leadership” of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then BJP National President Amit Shah, going on to win “the mandate of the people to form a popular government.”
The alliance, it claimed, has provided Nagaland with a stable government and “all round accelerated development,” ushering in “an era of economic growth with the prevalence of a peaceful environment guided by the Common Minimum Program.”
According to the statement, the Nagaland state government, as “an active facilitator,” is continuing to make serious efforts towards finding a peaceful solution to the Indo-Naga political dialogue.
Meanwhile, it said that the alliance has grown from strength to strength in the past four years having won the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and state bye elections.
