Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) today celebrated Pre-Christmas with a commitment to serve the people through “deeds and not words.”

The celebration was held at Banquet Hall, State Guest House, CM’s Old Bungalow in Minister’s Hill Kohima, wherein Associate Pastor of UBC Kohima Visato Yhoshü delivered the Christmas message.

Speaking on the topic “God is with us”, Yhoshü said Christmas is a time not only for celebrations but also to be reminded of our ultimate need for forgiveness in the birth of Jesus Christ and His presence in our lives.

NDPP president Chingwang Konyak extending Christmas greetings and wishes for prosperous New Year 2021 said the gift of Christmas is love for all and promise of hope for a new dawn and also peace.

Extending greetings on the occasion, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Sharingain Longkumer lauded the party leaders for giving opportunity to the youngsters to be part of the elected representatives of the people. Opining that young legislators, including himself require the guidance from the senior party leaders to be torch bearers, Longkumer urged the Party leaders and senior legislators to pass on the wisdom to the young ones to carry forward the torch for the welfare of the people of the State.

Though the current year has been a tough one due to COVID-19 pandemic, under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu it has been a smooth sailing thus far, Longkumer said.

Rio led the State from the front while the PDA alliance government has performed exceeding well in this pandemic period, he added.

He said NDPP is not just a progressive party grooming the young people to be future leaders but has also been working to change the socio-economic dynamics of the state.

Appreciating the government for establishing Nagaland Staff Selection Board, he expressed hope that the Party leaders, rank and file would welcome such measures which would be in the interest of the general welfare of the State.

NDPP secretary general Abu Metha said the year 2020 has been a challenging year as it came in a different way pausing everything that was supposed to be a new dawn by the end of 2019.

Nonetheless, he called upon all to move on with the ‘new normal’ and be ready to face its challenges along with new technology.

In this, he said NDPP must be the story behind a new Nagaland and make 2021 a comeback year for the Naga people.

He therefore challenged the NDPP leaders to be part of it and bring positive change. “Let us remember that we are committed to serve the people through deeds and not words,” said Metha.

Chaired by NDPP Central Women Organisation secretary W Nginyeih Konyak the programme commenced with NDPP advisor Neiba Ndang pronouncing invocation while special presentations by MAK Quintet, Mengu & Virie, Veto & Band enthralled the gathering.
