NDPP condemns intrusion; prompts MLA for measures

Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): The NDPP 21 Tuli A/c has drawn attention over the current imbroglio on the Assam - Nagaland border where it alleged Assamese authorities of entering Nagaland on July 23 to set up a police outpost at Watiyongpang.

In a press release from the Media & Communication cell, NDPP Tuli, it vehemently condemned the intrusion of “Assamese authorities who have tried to cause communal disharmony amongst the Assamese and the Nagas living in the border as well as creating unwanted law and order situation.”

It maintained that “the said area has been under the jurisdiction of Wamaken village since time immemorial and the villagers have been cultivating that area since the time of our ancestors. It is absurd that the Assam government is suddenly trying to claim that area as theirs.”

While urging both the state government to resolve impasse at the earliest in order to maintain the cordial and conducive relationship between the people living on both sides of the border, it also lauded the PDA government led by Neiphiu Rio for taking prompt action through the district administration in bringing about semblance in the border area.

While expressing anguish over its constituency MLA for his ignorance to the current issue, it lamented that “despite the passing of three days since the incident began, the local MLA from 21 Tuli a/c is yet to make his presence felt in the area leave alone issuing a statement condemning the act.”

“The problem at hand has been widely circulated in all the social media as well as the local dailies and therefore the MLA cannot claim of ignorance of the matter,” it expressed.

The party further questioned the MLA whether he feels it is his duty to serve the people only when he is in the ruling government or has he been elected to represent and serve the people of his constituency be it in the opposition or ruling?

The party, therefore, according to the release also demanded the concerned MLA to publicly declare to the people of Tuli A/C as to “what measures he has taken in order to defuse the current volatile situation whereby the people have been suffering physically and mentally for the last so many days.”
