NDPP secretary to attend leadership program in US

Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Secretary General, Abu Metha has been selected by the United States government to participate in a special exchange program, “Regional Project for Asia Pacific, South & Central Asia” under the aegis of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).  

A release issued by NDPP Communication & Media Committee stated that the programme will be attended by leaders from 12 Asia Pacific countries.  

The participants will be given an opportunity to examine the functions of state and local governments in planning. It will discuss US regulatory processes and the government’s role in ensuring a working infrastructure across state and local levels. Matters related to activities in the region and the Indo-Pacific strategy with the US Department of State Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs, and South and Central Asian Affairs will also be discussed, the release said.  

The release also stated that a panel discussion will be arranged for visitors to meet with representatives of the CSIS Reconnecting Asia project office to address the topic of “Insights into the U.S. Perspective of the Indo-Pacific Region. The discussion will focus on US’ best practices and approaches.  

The program to be held across six cities of the United States, will include a close study on the planning infrastructure development, community service activities, cultural activities and interactions with the National Park Service at the World War II Valor in the Pacific site at Pearl Harbour amongst several other events and meets.  

The IVLP, since 1940, has been participated by more than 320 current and former heads of Government and States and many distinguished international personalities. The program and all its participants will be fully funded by the US Government.  

The NDPP, through the release also lauded Abu Metha for being the only person from the region selected to participate in an international event of repute.
