NECU introduces leadership empowerment training

Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): The North East Christian University (NECU), Dimapur launched a six-month virtual leadership empowerment training on January 22. 

The training will be taught by Christian scholars and seminary professors in India, New Zealand, and Germany covering the areas of contextual biblical reflection; trauma and counselling; Christian witness; Christian involvement in public life; and the caring of a vulnerable community, stated a press release received here. 

The training designer and convenor, Prof Wati Longchar shared, “So far 161 Christian leaders and workers from nine countries have enrolled in the training. The majority are from India, and others are from Bangladesh, Canada, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Taiwan, Pakistan, and the UK. Gender-wise, 94 of them are male and 67 are female.”

Rev Taku Longkumer, International Ministries Country, Coordinator and Rev Dr Benjamin Chan, International Ministries Area, Director of East and South Asia also addressed the inaugural. Rev Dr Akheto Sema, NECU Chancellor and General Secretary, Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI) brought the message. 

Dr Darlando Khathing, Vice-Chancellor, introducing the university said, “In response to the global fight against COVID-10 pandemic, NECU joins the global community in eradicating COVID-19 by offering this free leadership empowerment training programme under the theme “Christian witness in times of COVID-19 and beyond.”

Prof Longchar also introduced the second phase of the training of NECU Centre of Virtual Continuing Education, which is being worked out in partnership with churches and seminaries in Myanmar and Nepal, covering the Karen, Kachin, Chin, and Nepali Christian communities.
