8th Nagaland Open Pcheda Championship 2023 concludes

The 8th Nagaland Open Pcheda Championship and 2nd Toru Ke-rha Championship 2023 took place on January 3 under the aegis of Tragopan Club, Viswema at Watch Tower, R Khel, Viswema in Kohima district.

Tepunol Yore, District Project Officer, Chümoukedima, Department of Land Resources, Government of Nagaland graced the event as the special guest.

In his address, Yore stressed on the need to promote indigenous games like Pcheda and Toru Ke-rha.

“Promotion of traditional games has the potential to attract tourists to explore our culture,” he said.

He appreciated the efforts of Tragopan Club for organizing the Pcheda and Toru Ke-rha championship, thereby preserving and promoting the traditional games.

He opined that sports are meant to keep the people healthy and fit regardless of age.

Further, Yore urged the Viswema citizens to be role model and ambassador for peace and unity.

The programme was chaired by Meyoho Sothu, Vice president while welcome address was delivered by Vichosel Rhutso.

Introduction of the games was made by Kropo Neikha, Field Marshal (Pcheda) and Zholesano Pusa, Chief Coordinator (Toru Ke-rha).

Vireto Theyo, Associate Pastor, Viswema Baptist Church prayed for the programme while Nosato Theyo, assistant games and sports secretary led the prize distribution.

Avitso Lcho, Information & Publicity Secretary proposed vote of thanks.

Winners

Neisal Theyo won 8th Nagaland Open Pcheda champion title and received Rs 20,000. Vivohoto Sothu stood second position and received Rs 15,000. Zayieho Kin secured third position and received Rs 10,000. Medokevi Kin bagged fourth position and pocketed Rs 5000.

The consolation winners-Metol Neikha, Puzoto Kin, Viyieto Koso, Rukuhokho Kennao and Keneizoto Neikha, have been awarded with Rs 1000 each alongwith citations.

Meanwhile, in the Toru Ke-rha team championship, Rachu Khel (Team B) won the first position and received Rs 10,000. Lomu Kitawhemi, Zheri Khel emerged the second position and awarded with Rs 7000.

Consolation prize winners Taho Group, Pavoma Khel, Puno Kita Whemi and Zheri Khel received Rs 1000 each along with citations.

Lolenu Koso of Lomu group was adjudged as the best player was awarded with Rs 1000 and citation.

95 participants took part in Pcheda event while 80 joined Toru Ke-rha competition.
