Over 55% of students who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Under Graduate (UG) from Nagaland cleared the test for admission to medical courses in various institutions in India.
The percentage, based on the number of students appearing and qualifying, is more or less the same as in 2023, marking the best NEET results for Nagaland so far.
However, the number of students appearing for the test and qualifying was much higher in 2024.
In 2023, a total of 2945 appeared for the test, out of which 1648 were successful, indicating a clearance rate of around 55.95%.
The number of students appearing increased to 3479 in 2024, with a total of 1934 clearing the test, resulting in an approximately 55.56% qualification rate.
Initially, a total of 3668 candidates from Nagaland had registered for the NEET (UG) in 2024.
Meanwhile, with a percentile score of 99.475249, Navin Kumar (Gen-EWS) scored the top marks among the candidates appearing from Nagaland. He was ranked 11,350 nationally.
Nationally, over 56% cleared the NEET-UG exam, as per the results declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 4. A total of 2,333,297 candidates appeared for the test, with 1,316,268 clearing the exam, indicating approximately a 56.34% pass percentage.
As reported in The Morung Express last year, the pass percentages have been consistently improving over the years in Nagaland.
The pass percentage from Nagaland was 29.34% in 2018, which increased to 34.52% in 2019. The clearance rate further rose to 40.50% in 2020. While the 2021 result remained more or less the same, it surged to 54.51% in 2022 and 55.95% in 2023. The pass percentage for Nagaland in 2023, which stood at 55.95%, remained more or less the same in 2024.
Qualifying Criteria
Meanwhile, the qualifying criteria marks for students belonging to the general and other reserved categories increased across categories in 2024.
For unreserved category students, the cut-off went up from 720-137 in 2023 to 720-164, while for medical aspirants from reserved categories, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), it increased from 136-107 in 2023 to 163-129 in 2024.
For Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and physically handicapped (PH) candidates in the unreserved category, it increased from 136-121 to 163-146 during the same period. For candidates in OBC, SC, and ST PH, the range changed from 136-121 in 2023 to 145-129 in 2024.
