Dimapur, March 21 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed World Water Day on March 22. The programme was observed by the students and the faculty members of NEISSR in the morning Sarvodaya session which is one among many unique cultures of NEISSR and a daily practice before the start of the day.

The speaker, Kuputoli spoke on the importance of water, stating that water is the reason for the existence of life on earth. Highlighting Water as one of the most precious elements on earth, the speaker called on the gathering to renew our commitment to use water sustainably and protect water resources.  Emphasizing on the theme for World Water Day 2022, ‘Groundwater, making the invisible visible,’ Kuputoli that groundwater is a vital resource that provides almost half of all the drinking water to the world life. Groundwater is an important component and is a source of recharge for lakes, rivers and wetlands. In many parts of the world groundwater is the main source for day-to-day use. However, despite these benefits, one can observe the depletion of ground water due to lack of any conservation effort. So, she encouraged the participants to take care of the groundwater and spread awareness on the importance of groundwater.

She concluded by stating that since each of us depend on water to sustain life, it is our moral responsibility to learn about water conservation. We can all make changes in our lifestyles to reduce water usages. The trick is making water conservation a way of life not just something we think about once in a year. She urged all the participants to make each day a water day and make water conservation a style of life.

A press release from the NEISSR Desk stated that Likivi Zhimoa, student of Peace and Conflict Transformation specialization chaired the session.
