NEISSR organises training on professional progressive circles

North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research, Dimapur organised two-day orientation programme on March 4 and 5.

Dimapur, March 12 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) Dimapur organised a two-day orientation programme on March 4 and 5 for the 1st and the 2nd year students entering a new semester. 

NEISSR Principal, Dr Fr CP Anto kicked off the programme highlighting the introduction the Professional Progressive Circles (PPC), a unique programme of institute, a press release form the institute informed. 

The main aim of PPC is not only to get a job but enabling social work professionals to create jobs for the unemployed youth of the state and the region, he said, while exhorting the students to take it up as a mission.

He also encouraged the students to recommit, resolve and transform themselves into a better version and be extraordinary persons who innovate and create jobs and make Nagaland and the region economically self reliant. 

In the second session, the Chief Manager of Waste Management Amos Ezung spoke on the topic “Public Speaking Skills” and highlighted key components are required to become a great and efficient public speaker such as self confidence, positivity, the need for practice and others. 

He introduced some activities that could help each one finds meaning in life and asked the participants to mark the activities on a priority basis as he explains them, the release said.

The activities he mentioned include Spirituality through the practice of meditation, physical exercise or fitness, enhancing the intellect by reading good books and balancing family relationships. 

The third session was on “Peer Mediation” where former students of NEISSR, Mangpang and Toviholi highlighted the various steps involved in carrying out the mediation and its importance. 

In the last session for the day-I, Meriakthule N Chewang, another former student of NEISSR shared on the topic “best practices of NEISSR that enabled her to be what she is today.”

On the second day, NEISSR’s Vice-Principal Rev Fr Kokto Kurian spoke on “Raising the Level of Commitment” and said that in order to order to excel, on must translate theoretical leaning into different fields.

He also advised the students to raise the level of programmes with much better and creative ways and stressed on the importance of commitment by being loyal, trustworthy and working with transparency.

In the second session, Obed Tongtali, an alumnus who was the first batch of NEISSR advised the students on how a good personality can inspire the people and encouraged the students to work on building oneself to becoming a punctual and respectful person. 

Another alumnus, Dominic Chadi, who is founder of an organisation called “Earth Friendly Generation,” talked about how the institute has shaped and encouraged him when he was already on the verge of giving up. He advised the students to keep going amidst the hurdles.

Dwelling on basic principles of social work in the third session, Matsunginla talked about how these principles have helped her come thus far. 

In the last session, Fr Joseph VJ shared on how a scheduled should be maintained and the process of Research and Fieldwork should be carried out.
