Mokokchung, June 23 (MExN): Minister and Chairman DPDB, Mokokchung, Tongpang Ozukum, PWD (Housing & Mechanical) visited the proposed site for construction of 2x10MVA 33/11kV Sub-station at Mokokchung Power House, Salangtem ward and Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) dumping site on June 23.

During the visitation, the press secretary to the minister in a press release stated, the officials from the power department apprised the minister about the delay in implementing the scheme under North East Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) which is funded by Government of Nagaland and World Bank “due to some issue with the landowner.”

The mentioned sub-station is also part of the scheme intended to upgrade Power System requirement particularly for Mokokchung Town which is already in overloaded condition, the release stated.

The officials also conveyed to the minister that the above scheme is coming to a closure and during the last review meeting chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, “the Secretary, MoP Gol had categorically stated that the state government should resolve and start the work without delay, failing which the particular project will be abandoned, since the other sites under the World Bank program is getting completed in other districts, except for Mokokchung,” it stated.

Ozukum, on his part, hoped that the department and the landowner will come to an understanding at the earliest as the public of Mokokchung town will be deprived of the developmental infrastructure which was aimed to cater to the power supply requirement of Mokokchung town.

He further urged all the stakeholders to come to an agreement and work together in the greater interest of the people and of Mokokchung as it will be a tremendous loss for the citizens of Mokokchung for all time to come.

Later, the minister inspected the MMC dumping site for assessment for preventive counter measures related to environmental hazards in the area. Ozukum was accompanied by the district administration, All Ward Union Mokokchung, NDPP officials and 24 Angetyongpang AC Independent party officials.
